Grades Involved


Description

Jr. BETA Club

6-8

Students are inducted according to academic achievement. The club promotes leadership skills. 


4-H

3-8

Students participate in projects throughout the school year at the school level and the parish level. They complete record books and are able to attend Achievement Day and Summer Camp.

Library Club

6-8

Students who love reading participate in daily organization of the library, promote literacy events, and help out with school activities.

Science Club

5-8

Students participate in science activities and experiments.

Student Council

4-8

Classroom representatives and elected officers promote good citizenship and school spirit while demonstrating Christian qualities.  They also sponsor an annual "Toys for Tots" Christmas Toy Drive.


YACA (art club)

7-8

Students in YACA (Youth Art Council of America) assist with artistic endeavors on SBS Campus.  Officers help in planning the theme and activities for the YACA Annual Lock In.  Students are able to attend the YACA Annual Lock In.

Duke University Talent Program

4, 5, 7

Students participate in advanced testing for state and national recognition.


Field Studies (out of state)

5-8

Students have the opportunity to visit and study famous places they have learned about such as Williamsburg, Virginia and Washington, D.C.


Geography Bee

4-8

Students participate in classroom geography bees. Classroom winners compete at the school level. One winner then competes at the regional level.


Math Competition

3-8

Advanced math students participate in math competition at the parish level.


Math Counts

7-8

Students in middle school compete at regional and state levels.


Spelling Bee

1-8

Students compete in classroom spelling bees and in a school-wide spelling bee according to appropriate levels (1-3, 4-6, 7-8). Winners compete at the regional level.


Youth Legislature

8

Students participate in creating bills and passing them through Congress as Congressman and Senators.


Music/Drama/School Spirit

Students who have been in Pep Squad at least one year may participate.

Choir

5

Students in 5th grade lead class liturgies in church on a weekly basis.


Pep Squad

1-4

Students who want to promote school spirit may participate.


School Plays

K-8

Students throughout the school participate in Thanksgiving Reenactments, Catholic School Week Mass, and May Pole Celebration. K-2 students participate in a Christmas play. 3-4 grade students participate in an Advent Play. 5-8 grade students participate in a Passion Play.

School Musical

6-8

Students in grades 6-8 share their dramatic talents in an annual school musical.


Community Service

Altar Servers

4-8

Students serve during school and weekend Masses.


Class Service Projects

Pre-K – 8

Students in every grade level participate in helping others. Some service projects are Faith House, St. Joseph’s Diner, bingo with shut-ins, nursing home visits, and bingo with the elderly.


School-wide Service Projects

Pre-K – 8

Students throughout the school participate in donating to poor countries through rice bowls. The students also participate in Jump Rope for Heart and St. Jude Math-a-thon. Students also donate items needed for shelters, the local food bank, and community members who are in need.
