Pastor's Welcome
About   >   Pastor's Welcome

Chers amis in Christ, our Teacher and our Wisdom,

Our Church has been entrusted by the Lord Jesus with the teaching ministry of the Apostles. St. Bernard School carries on this 2000 year old mandate to teach the nations and make disciples, the Great Commission Christ gave to our Church.

Founded in 1891, St. Bernard School was administered by the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament who began this teaching ministry in Breaux Bridge. This heritage and tradition continues today. The faith of our fathers and mothers before us is a precious treasure we share with every generation. To teach as Jesus taught is to emphasize the spiritual aspect of our lives. To know the Lord Jesus Christ intimately and his Church, and to accept Him as personal Lord and Savior is our goal. To make Catholic education available to all is our challenge. Jesus taught us to seek first the Kingdom of God and the treasure that lasts to eternal life.

At the same time, the modern world of the 21st century calls for academic preparation and intellectual discipline and formation to meet the challenges ahead as Christians. Our philosophy of Christian love and charity is brought to the classroom, and the mind and heart of your child are enriched for future blessings in life. The mind, touched by the Holy Spirit, grows in knowledge and in godly wisdom. Our teachers make many sacrifices for Catholic education.

Our patron, St. Bernard, is one of the great Doctors and teachers of the Church. He is called the Mellifluous Doctor for the sweetness of his preaching. We continue this legacy, for surely to teach the Bible, the Word of God, is sweet. Academic excellence and a heart for God is the model of St. Bernard’s life which we strive to follow. His motto-Omnia per Mariam-All through Mary- is also ours, as we entrust our children to the loving mother of Jesus Christ. Since 1847-over 160 years- St. Bernard parish has continued the teaching ministry of Christ and the Apostles. We look forward to the next chapter in our history. Bienvenue chez nous!

In Christ, the Good Shepherd,
Rev. Father Paul J. LaFleur
Pastor and Chancellor
